    ALBUQUERQUE (KASA) – For the second year in a row, Liferoots will be bringing the community together for a taste of fun and fundraising at its annual "Pie Day Event" held on National Pi Day, March 13. The event will take place at Builders Source Appliance Gallery. At the event you can have all-you-can-eat pie, including savory pie and sweet pie, we are getting the details that you need to attend!

    For the second year in a row, LifeROOTS will be bringing the community together for a "taste" of fun and fundraising at its annual “Pie Day Event" – held on National Pi Day (3.14).

    Pie Day Event - Albuquerque

    March 14th, 2016

    This year’s Pie Day Event will take place on March 14th at Builders Source Appliance Gallery, located at 308 Menaul Boulevard NE in Albuquerque from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. All funds raised at the event will go towards purchasing aluminum wheelchairs for LifeROOTS clients – making it easier for those with disabilities to be able to travel throughout the community.

    What is the Pie Day Event and how can you get involved?

    The LifeROOTS Pie Day Event is a day we’ve created to celebrate, and honor, all things pie. Attendees at the event will be able to enjoy a variety of pies from local bakeries and chefs (fruit, pot pies, pizza pie….) and enjoy demonstrations (and free samples) from premier chefs in the state-of-the-art kitchens displayed at Builders Source Appliance Gallery.

    However, what makes this event truly unique is our "Throw a Pie in the Face of Management" event – giving people the opportunity to "throw a pie" at their boss, co-worker, manager, etc. … all for a good cause!

    El Ranchito de los Niños is a public charity, not-for-profit organization that provides children (focusing on sibling groups) with a permanent/long-term, non-denominational home in a rural family farm setting as an alternative to foster care.

    Our Fire & Ice Gala premiered Albuquerque’s exclusive The Living Kitchen by Sub-Zero & Wolf along with other transformations in our showroom. Over 300 guests gathered to enjoy live chef demonstrations, tastings, fire dancing and smooth Brazilian jazz.

    "Duke It Out!" Event - Albuquerque


    Wednesday, November 5th, 2014 from 5:30pm - 8pm

    On the evening of November 5th, 2014 close to 200 people enjoyed amazing food in the awesome ambiance at Builders Source Appliance Gallery for Duke It Out!, a Chef Competition benefitting El Ranchito de los Niños. $30,000 was raised for El Ranchito, a Children’s Home that keeps siblings together.

    Six chefs competed for prizes and bragging rights at the event. The six competing chefs included: Maxime Bouneou—Torinos@Home; Chef Christina Martinez—Artichoke Café; Chef David Ruiz—Soul & Vine; Ernesto Duran—Café Bien; Chef Mike Giese—Pueblo Harvest; and Chef Erkut Karatas—Hotel Adaluz. Top Chef Winner Chef Christina won $500 and a chef jacket.

    The winners chosen:

    • Top Chef—Chef Christina Martinez—Artichoke Café
    • 1st Course—Chef Maxime Bouneou—Torinos@Home
    • 2nd Course—Chef Christina Martinez—Artichoke Café
    • 3rd Course—Chef David Ruiz—Soul & Vine
    • People’s Choice—Chef Ernesto Duran—Café Bien

    The attendees had a chance to vote for their favorite chef and five prominent judges were chosen to pick the winners. The judges voting included Carol Wright, CEO, New Mexico Restaurant Association; Lane Warner, Executive Chef, La Fonda on the Plaza; Chef Carmine Russo, Culinary Arts Instructor, CNM Community College; Monique Jacobson, Cabinet Secretary of Tourism; and Tony Trujillo, Corporate Executive Chef Heritage Hotels & Resorts.

    Builders Source Appliance Gallery was honored when asked to partner with Albuquerque The Magazine to host a red carpet gala event at their showroom. Executive Chefs from premier Albuquerque restaurants went head-to-head in this TV-style Chef Competition. Attendees had the opportunity to sample each chef's 3 dishes, enjoy the competition bantering and submit their vote for the winner of the three bouts for The People's Choice Award. Ben E. Keith Foods supported the event and Evander Holyfield was a guest judge. A fun time was had by all and the proceeds went to The Storehouse, New Mexico's largest food pantry located in downtown Albuquerque.
